Marilyn Monroe is making a return trip to Palm Springs
“Forever Marilyn,” the 26-foot- tall sculpture of the blonde Hollywood icon begin its journey to the corner of Palm Canyon and Tahquitz Canyon Way
The official unveiling of “Forever Marilyn” is set for May 24 during downtown's VillageFest, said Tim Ellis, president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce
and vice president of PS Resorts

Ellis said.PS Resorts, a consortium of local resorts, has been working in collaboration with Councilman Paul Lewin and Desert Fashion Plaza owner John Wessman to have “Forever Marilyn” anchor the park until the re-imagined Desert Fashion Plaza is complete in 2015.“The historic connection Marilyn has in Palm Springs
that she never had in Chicago alone makes her belong here,” Ellis said.
Ellis points to Monroe's ties to Palm Springs that include her discovery by a powerful Hollywood agent at Charlie Farrell's Racquet Club and her frequent stays with husband
Joe DiMaggio at the Movie Colony estate, currently known as the Sand Acre Estate.
Owners of a 1950s bungalow in the Las Palmas neighborhood claim she owned
the house at one time, but there's little documentation to back up the claim.
The project is estimated to cost a total of $78,000, which includes an insurance policy that specifically states the foundation is responsible for hiring a company
to deal with any possible vandalism.
