nothing says 'let's party' like this guyalthough it's not a national holiday here in the US
many communities across the country take time off
and celebrate st. patrick's day with parades
festivals, the 'wearing of the green' and women showing their tops
the fact is that 's all a big sham
in fact, the parties, green beer and parades are an
american invention - the women flashing their breasts
was started in italy yeeears ago
the first parade honoring the day occurred in boston in 1762
- just the irish in america looking for a reason to drink more
over the years, the drinking was a great way to remember
- and forget their irish roots
as for the man himself
much of st. patrick's life is clouded by legend
and fogged by the inebriation
the fact that he was born in scotland doesn't bother anyone
as a teenager he was kidnapped and sold into slavery
he worked tending and protecting sheep
and wondering around behind the little animals
it was during that time - after an extremely bad bender
that he began to have religious visions and dreams
in one dream, he was shown a way to escape from ireland
after a perilous journey of hundreds of miles he arrived
almost back to where he started
he ended up in england
although the visions continued he didn't feel so weird
- kinda seemed normal, being he was with the english
it was only after finding his true spiritual self that patrick felt
he could answer the call to return to ireland
he went to 'care and labour for the salvation of others'
he returned to ireland as a bishop around 432 AD
- traveled throughout ireland spreading the word of God
and appleseeds, built churches and schools and pubs
and to this day
women still pull up their tops
