MING & QING & NOW PING DYNASTIES

when president obama was in san jose he had to know

spanish

and while visiting los angeles this morning, he had to speak

spanish

but this afternoon in rancho mirage, he'll have to know some

chinese

now we all know that chinese sounds like pots and pans

falling from the cupboard and hitting a ceramic kitchen floor

- bing-ding bhaaa, bang-bing ching, whooooo- ching pow

but the real sound the president is really ready to hear

is that sound from his fat presidential driver on his tee-shots

ping

the chinese president's wife will join the fun and is looking

forward to enjoy the other famous sound in this desert paradise

shop-ping

obama has been anxiously waiting to play sunnylands for years

it’s a 20th century oasis, green and lush and it makes

anyone who plays there feel as if they’ve left the regular

world and entered into something serene and beautiful

- at least that's what he's read in the brochure - that's why

the decision was made to hold this summit in california

while unusual

it's intended to allow both leaders to hash out critical

national security and trade-related issues far from the

political fishbowl of a world capitol or a multi-national summit

the meeting is especially critical given recent tensions

between the US and china over accusations of

cyber-hacking, stealing intellectual property and arming and

aiding everyone from the north koreans to the syrians to

hezbollah in the south china sea

the estate’s vast collection of chinese cloisonné art

- a collection dating back to the ming and qing dynasties

and a chinese-themed pavilion will make that ping sound

- sound all the more like home for president xi

this very important meeting will give obama a chance to drive

(he only is allowed to drive just one vehicle)
