president obama made the mistake yesterday
comparing himself to the recently deceased trayvon martin
he said he could relate to being tracked and watched
and treated like a criminal by society as a whole
yesterday in an unscheduled appearance before reporters
obama said the nation needed to look for ways to move
forward after the shooting and trial (not to mention the acquittal)
and urged americans to 'do some soul searching
about their attitudes on race' - yes, he played the race card
- but sadly, the white community has no soul and the only
searching it does is frisking young suspects in the streets
- mainly blacks like trayvon and hispanics like zimmerman
he also said 'the jury has spoken' and he wasn't on the jury
as if that wasn't enough, his off-the-cuff comments went on
'i think it’s important to recognize that the african-american
community is looking at this issue through a set of
experiences and a history that doesn’t go away'
obama went on to say that before becoming a senator, he himself
experienced walking across the street and hearing the locks
click shut, being followed in stores and other similar situations
'it’s that set of experiences', he said, 'that informs how many
black americans interpret what happened that night in sanford'
being the former president of the harvard law review must
have taught him a lot about life on the street
he went on to say 'that the african-american community
isn’t naive about the fact african-american young men are
more heavily involved in the criminal justice system and
that they’re disproportionately both victims and perpetrators'
however he didn't state that 100% of that proportion are
convicts in jail and that they are indeed convicted criminals
maybe the president should do a little soul searching himself
maybe treat this problem just like he has his war on terrorism
maybe instead of following the due process of the law
and adhering to the various laws and statues of the land
maybe it's time to just fly in the drones
he could start with detroit
