the dog days or dog days of summer are the hot
sultry days
during the summer months
historically the period following the rising of the star sirius
serious
the greeks and the romans associated sirius with heat,
drought,
sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, high fever,
bad luck, sweaty pits and of course mad dogs
they are now considered the hottest, most uncomfortable
part of summer here in the northern hemisphere
but, the real dates
the ones major league baseball considers the dog days
are from mid july through mid august
and see the calendar, we're almost done with this sweaty stuff
now where this lucky dog lives
it stays hot until thanksgiving
because here in the desert it's always hot
and that's the doggone truth
