just months after the country went through a dramatic
revolution and restructuring of all most everything
the libyan capitol of tripoli is
welcoming a new freedom
one they've never dreamed could be possible
cinnabon
the sticky business just opened its first US owned franchise
mike shattuck, president of the
atlanta-based company
has stated 'it's a very sticky situation in the middle east
and we're not here to sugar coat the problems
but, we just want to make some money outta this chaos'
the company has plans to open additional cinnabon outlets
in libya as well as algeria, tunisia and morocco
'this adventure into these hot and spicy countries
plays perfectly with our plans to hook the continent
not on sugar but on cinnamon' shattuck continued
the 7,500-square-foot
cinnabon store is the
first of 10 planned locations set to open in and around libya
interestingly, the company had already been
in negotiations
with the gadhafi regime - 'but these new guys like our buns
as well as our green american dollars - just like gadhafi had'
muammar loved his buns, especially sticky ones
the company had a hard time trying to secure a relatively
safe location for the store however, the decision was made
- that anywhere would be as safe as the next place
the store made more than $45,000 during its first week
the only question that still remains for many american
franchisees is will the populations in these predominately
muslim countries go for other american fast food goodies
mccafe and del taco have expressed great interest, but
kentucky fried chicken is very cautious and a little frightened
after all, the libyans just killed their last colonel
