obesity is in your skinny jeans
chronic obesity is in your genes
however
the american medical association this week issued a
statement recognizing obesity as a disease
i caught my disease in line at baskin robbins
supporters say this will spur more federal and private
investment to what has become a national epidemic
it's gonna be tough however, to out spend mcdonald's
and all the multitude of other fat food companies
such a move, supporters say, could result in greater
investments and potentially even health insurance coverage
specifically for a diagnosis that someone is obese
some say that the cost for doctor visits could be drastically
reduced by allowing patients just to phone in their weight
- as a diagnosis would be much easier and a lot quicker
'oh, you weigh 322 pounds - yes, you're sick alright'
more widespread recognition of obesity as a disease could
result in greater investment by government and the private
sector to develop and reimburse obesity treatments
- said the 14 page report issued by AMA delegates
while the action this week by the AMA has no legal authority
some doctors feel that insurers 'duck their responsibility'
in not paying for treatment of their obese patients
this means insurance premiums as well as mostly all
health care costs in general are bound to skyrocket
most feel that obesity is the result of personal choices
like smoking cigarettes, sniffing glue and inhaling gasoline
and thus should simply be demonized by the public
and then taxed appropriately by the government
however a so-called 'fat tax' would be a real blow to most
'would you like whipped cream on that... ok
that will be an additional seventeen dollars - fatty'
